Abstract: The Global Burden of Disease Study 2013 showed that China was one of the global countries with a high exposure to stroke risk factors and about 94% of stroke burden was caused by manageable risk factors. Incidence: Chinese Monitoring Trends and Determinants in Cardiovascular Disease Project (Sino-MONICA project, 1987-1993) showed that the average age-standardized incidence of stroke in both men and women was 270 / 100,000 and 161 / 100,000, respectively. Prevalence: The National Health Services Survey, conducted every 5 years, showed that the prevalence of stroke patients in China increased from 0.40% in 1993 to 1.23% in 2013 and the prevalence was persistently increasing. Recurrence rate: From 2007 to 2008, according to the data of China National Stroke Registration Platform, the recurrence rate of acute stroke patients in our country was 17.7% in the first year and >30% in 5 years. Mortality: China Health and Family Planning Statistical Yearbook 2015 (Hereinafter referred to as Yearbook 2015) showed that in 2014, the mortality of cerebrovascular disease was 125.78/100000 in urban residents and 151.91/100000 in rural residents. Based on these data, stroke led to 1.88 million deaths each year in China.
